AmbiciOsas is a circular economy startup that combines recycling, innovation, and green jobs with education and the processing of post-consumer materials, blending community engagement, music, and art with environmental awareness.

Climate Problem

"AmbiciOsas" addresses air and marine pollution caused by urban growth and poor waste management along Costa Rica's South Pacific coast, particularly recyclable materials that end up in rivers, beaches, and oceans.

Solution

We focus on three main areas: individual responsibility through recycling collection, advocacy by working with governments and businesses to transform the waste management system, and environmental education through clean-up campaigns

Revenue Model

We generate revenue through recycling collection memberships for homes and businesses, fees for accepting recyclable materials, the sale of recovered materials, and our Recycle Shop, where we sell reused items.

Demand Evidence

AmbiciOsas was born out of a social need for recycling services. We operate in Costa Rica, a country internationally recognized for its focus on environmental conservation, and on the Osa Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse regions in the world.

Competitors

Our main competitors are other recycling centers and waste management companies in southern Costa Rica. In recent years, these facilities have closed due to financial difficulties; the one closest to us closed a month ago.

Founder Expertise

I am a political scientist and social entrepreneur with experience in sustainability, community leadership, and environmental projects in Latin America. I have worked with international organizations, local governments, and businesses on issues related to social innovation.

External Support

So far, the project has been sustained mainly through the support of individuals, volunteers, and community members committed to environmental conservation, who have paid membership fees and made donations.
