Climate Problem The area where I live is low-lying and located in the humid tropics, so I am reforesting the river that runs through the property, planting wild fruits to attract more animals, using living fences on the pastures, and eliminating the use of chemicals. Solution Well-planned pastures restore soil health; increased biodiversity helps capture carbon; these actions improve water retention and reduce reliance on chemical inputs, thereby enabling sustainable food production. Revenue Model By selling livestock—whether live or as carcasses—depending on the nutritional efficiency of the feed provided and the herd’s genetics, and by cutting out middlemen, we can produce more with less land, in addition to the savings from eliminating the use of chemicals Target Market At slaughterhouses or on the farm. Social Impact Women Demand Evidence The product I offer is a staple food item—meat protein—that is widely consumed worldwide. Furthermore, in my country, we are working in a coordinated manner to ensure its traceability. Competitors There are quite a few competitors in the area, but the difference is that this type of regenerative livestock farming is still in its infancy; since most producers sell their animals at auction—which is the closest thing to what we do—we’re working to set ourselves apart. Founder Expertise I grew up on a cattle ranch that operated using conventional methods, but over time and with the help of consultants, I’ve been changing the way we work on the ranch. I’m gaining this knowledge by visiting other ranches and putting it into practice. External Support Through development finance, via CATIE, I was able to secure a non-repayable grant, in addition to expert guidance on sustainability, helping to mitigate climate change by working in symbiosis with microorganisms.
